Austro-Hungarian U-boat desk lamp
Very rare, possibly unique, Austro-Hungarian U-boat desk lamp from the 1st World War c1920. Marked UV (Untersee boot SM U-5) the captain of which was non other than Georg Ritter von Trapp, whose story was made famous by the musical The Sound of Music. U-5 was the lead boat of the U-5 class of submarines, a full history of this famous U-boat will be supplied with the lamp. Original U boat base is heavy spelter, and original swan neck is brass. It has a new brass gallery, bulb holder and shade which is adjustable. We cannot find any other versions of this lamp and it may be a one-off lamp made by the crew for their captain. Rewired to British standard and PAT tested.
